To get Internet access for all subnets I created proxy server that has two network cards. Virtual machines are connected to Hyper-V internal virtual switches. There are four different subnets that belong to, and AD domains. Picture above present one simple schematic of Microsoft lab environment. Some time ago I was wondering also how to create isolated environment that can access Internet, and servers that live in different subnets/Hyper-V switches and still can communicate to each other. There is software defined solutions today that do wonders, but sometimes it is easier to run lab this way. This post will show “old way” of creating VM lab networking on one host with Hyper-V enabled. Problem is that everybody want to have VMs in different subnets that can copycat real production, or some real scenario. We do it for testing or learning purposes. Usual exercise for system engineers is crating labs or test environments.
